Parental Leave Benefit Calculator FAQ
How is the parental leave benefit calculated?
For a parent taking leave alone, months 1–3 pay 100% of ordinary wage (capped at ₩2.5M/month), months 4–6 pay 100% (capped at ₩2M/month), and month 7 onward pays 80% (capped at ₩1.6M/month). If the calculated amount is below the ₩700,000 floor, ₩700,000 is paid instead.
What is the 6+6 parental leave scheme?
If both parents take parental leave (simultaneously or in sequence) for a child under 18 months old, each parent receives 100% of their ordinary wage for the first 6 months, with the monthly cap rising each month: ₩2.5M for months 1–2, ₩3M for month 3, ₩3.5M for month 4, ₩4M for month 5, and ₩4.5M for month 6. From month 7 onward, the general parental leave benefit rules apply.
Is there still a withheld portion paid only after returning to work?
No. Under the 2025 reform, the rule that withheld 25% of the benefit until 6 months after returning to work was abolished — the full benefit is now paid during the leave period itself.
Could the actual amount I receive differ from this calculator?
Yes. The benefit rates, caps, and floor are adjusted fairly often through legal amendments. This calculator reflects the standard in effect at the time it was built, but you should confirm your exact eligibility and amount on the Employment Insurance website (ei.go.kr) or with your regional employment center.
This calculator applies the parental leave benefit standard under Article 70 of the Employment Insurance Act and Article 95 of its Enforcement Decree (reflecting the 2025 reform that abolished the withheld-payment rule), for reference only. Caps and floors may change with future amendments — confirm the exact amount on the Employment Insurance website (ei.go.kr) or with your employment center.
